Clipston Endowed VC Primary School

Robin Class

RobinsWelcome to Robin Class - a mixed age class of EYFS and KS1. Our teacher is Mrs Bolton; she is supported by Mrs Ainsworth and Miss Barlow.

During a typical week we will take part in Phonics, Spelling, English and Maths activities.  During the afternoon we cover all other elements of the KS1 curriculum.  Interwoven through this is the Early Year Foundation Stage curriculum, facilitating learning through exploration and play.

On Thursday afternoons the children take part in PE with Mrs James our PE Coach.

Reading is a key element of learning, and we love reading!  The children borrow library books from school and are encouraged to read their reading books at home every day.  At school we aim to hear the children read two or three times a week; this may be 1:1 with an adult or as a group read.  We also encourage parents to read stories to their children on a regularly basis to help broaden their vocabulary and develop the love of reading.

Homework is set on a Friday, to be completed and returned to school on Wednesday. A variety of homework styles are used, including CGP question books, creative homework and spellings. Spelling is a particular focus given its prevalence in the new curriculum; therefore we strongly encourage you to help your child learn their spellings each week ready for an in-class quiz every Friday morning.

The Robin class is a lively, active, multisensory environment allowing the children to learn through planned lessons and exploratory play to develop their independent skills.  The curriculum topics are developed through the children's own interests, and are therefore evolving as the children’s ideas take us on all sorts of interesting journeys! Topics covered in the last few academic years have included Dinosaurs, Castles, Space, People Who Help Us, Africa, and Animals Big And Small.  We also like to invite visitors to school and we go out educational trips to help deepen our learning through real interaction. This year during our Little Critter topic we had a visit from Zoolab and found out about so many different animals. You can see even more of what we get up to via our newsletters, Twitter feed and homework pages – the children have an amazing time in Robin Class!
