Robins Class

RobinsWelcome to Robin Class!  We are an Early Years and Key Stage 1 class, taught by Mrs Bolton and supported by Mrs Ainsworth.

In our class we have lots of fun and we enjoy a range of learning opportunities which may be adult led or child initiated.   We aim to teach a cross-curricular, skills-based curriculum, believing that children progress most effectively when the skills, knowledge and understanding they are expected to learn are taught within a themed, topic-based framework that makes their learning interesting, relevant and enjoyable. Teachers involve the children as much as possible when planning learning each term so that lessons are focused around aspects they are interested in, resulting in topics where different subjects are linked as far as possible with a common theme.

We seek opportunities to consolidate and extend our learning through WOW! Days, trips and meeting visitors, and the children benefit enormously from being in a mixed age class.

Last year in 2015/2016 some of the things we did included exploring Space and lying inside a space dome to look at the planet and stars that make up our solar system, as well as making and tasting astronaut food and avidly following Tim Peake on his journey!  We also had a visit from an archaeologists specialising in dinosaurs and at the end of a Stone Age/Dinosaur Topic we cooked on open fires like real cavemen!  We went climbing and abseiling in Northampton, and we designed, baked and sold cookies as part of our Enterprise Project to the community.  EYFS children also went on train ride to Leicester to experience the different aspects of a train ride; they also visited Kelmarsh Hall and the Bluebell Wood at Coton Manor, going on various nature hunts.

This September (2016) we are starting the year with our "Tell us a Story" unit, looking at mixture of traditional, fairy and modern stories, linked also with Roald Dahl and celebrating his 100 year anniversary this September.

This year our Year 2 pupils achieved really well in their end of Key Stage 1 tests with 100% exceeding National Expectations in Reading and 100% meeting National Expectations in Maths and Writing. We are VERY proud of the learning and progress the children make in this class.

Each week we share photographs and our learning through Facebook, Twitter and our newsletter, which is sent out by email. A resume of the learning that has taken place each week is written down on our Homework Sheet and you can find examples of our learning by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page and by looking at our Twitter feed @CreatonPrimary or liking our Facebook page.
